I fear water.
I was as attracted by, and  frightened of, water.

I love this image of a raft floating near the shore  at Seaview on the Isle of Wight but it is uncanny.

Swimming

My very first swimming strokes without arm bands in a freezing cold tiny pool in Maplescombe.

I enjoyed swimming and use to wear goggles and a snorkel in the bath. I saw a lttle girl nearly drown because of cramp in this pool but she was OK.

Boats.

The model boat was a catamaran. The sea was exceptionally calm. This holiday was blissful. I slept head to toes with my sister and at the start my dad bought me the Observers book of trains. I still own it.

Boating pond

The Bromley Park boating pond fascinated me but I never sailed anything as far as I can remember.

Water.

The Bromley boating pond in 1957. Its has since been re-landscaped. I suspect it has gone now.

Water.

This is the Ford in Eynsford. Cars attempt to drive through often coming to grief. This features in one of the Tuffin stories ->

The waterwheel was through the arch of this bridge attached to an old mill.

Piers.

I have no original of piers from my childhood excursions however I maintain a fascination and fear of them. The first radio piece I produced featured a pier.
