Forest
The photo on the left is the view from my parents bedroom toward the village. It shows woods rather than forests. I was comfortable playing in the woods even at night (I don’t know that they were big enough to described as forests). They seemed much safer than the run down suburbia around Swanley where I went to school. Quite a number of poems are set in forests or woods. Even as a small child i was allowed to play there unsupervised although I would always have a friend with me as there was one man who liked to expose himself and I was told to avoid contact him. For me and my friends he was a figure of fun not fear.
